Sunday
school and youth group are offered for our 6th and 7th graders.
Sunday school begins in September and runs through May. We meet
during 10:45 worship in the youth room. We study the life and
ministry of Jesus Christ, we discuss what it means to be a
Christian, and we learn the basics of navigating the Bible. The
class is taught in a discussion setting. Students are encouraged to
bring questions and dive deeper into their faith.
Youth group
meets on Sundays from 5:30 - 7:00
p.m. during the school year. We
focus on fellowship, faith-building
and Christian service. We share our
faith, our thoughts and a lot of
laughter together. Additionally, we
meet several times a year for
overnight lock-ins or retreats and
share a summer activity.
Confirmation (grade 8)
Confirmation class meets on Sunday
evenings during the school year from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. We
begin the evening in the youth room for 30 minutes of prayer
and praise time. At 7:00, we move to a classroom. Together
we study the nature of God, Bible Basics, the Sacraments,
and the History of the UCC. We also discuss topics including
Miracles, Death & Resurrection, Living Our Faith, Prayer and
Spirituality. In addition to weekly classes, confirmands
visit four outside worship services and we participate in
monthly Service Saturdays as outreach within our community.
We have several overnight retreats during the year and take
time to build relationships within our class.
High School Youth (grades 9 - 12)
We
offer youth group weekly on Sunday evenings from 6:30 - 8:00
for our high school youth. We begin the evening in the youth
room for 30 minutes of praise and prayer time. At 7:00, we
typically have a topic to discuss and activities relating to
the topic. We talk about a variety of issues including peer
pressure, the meaning of prayer, building our faith, alcohol
and drug use, other religions, and friendship. We are open
to many points of view and strive to allow everyone to feel
comfortable within our group. We share in retreats and
overnight activities designed to foster friendship and
Christian fellowship.
Workcamp (grades 9 - 12)
Each
summer, our youth attend a week-long mission trip. In recent years
we have served in places including West Virginia, Minnesota,
Wisconsin, Ohio, Colorado, Georgia, Southeastern Kentucky and the
Lakota Indian Reservation in South Dakota. While the trip itself
takes place during the summer, fundraising and planning take almost
an entire year! Answering Christ's call to service is an experience
that brings us closer to one another and to God. Participants come
back with new insights, understanding and relationships.
