Music Ministry

♪♪♫♪♪  Music at PUCC!!!   ♪♪♫♪♪

We have a strong music program at Portage United Church of Christ, and we invite you to be a part of it!  Our goals are to provide music in the worship service as a meaningful experience for members of the congregation and members of the musical ensembles.  We have opportunities for all who wish to share their musical talents in worship.  If you would like more information on the music program, please contact Karen Woodworth, Director of Music Ministry, at 327-3114, ext. 507 or by e-mail at karenwoodworth@portageucc.org.

Covenant Choir:  Our Covenant Choir is open to all singers from high school through adult.  Join us to sing traditional classical favorites and new inspirational music.  Rehearsals are Thursdays in the sanctuary from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., September through May.

G3—God-Given Gifts:  Our Contemporary Ensemble welcomes singers and instrumentalists who want to offer their talents in a Praise Band format for the youth Praise & Prayer time on Sunday evenings, 6:30–7:00 p.m. (an average of three times per month).  Rehearsals are Sunday evenings on Praise & Prayer nights (September through May) in the Youth Room from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Jesus Jammers:  Children in Kindergarten through 5th grade will have a great time singing, learning, and growing their faith in the Jesus Jammers, directed by Sue Oole.  Rehearsals are held at 9:45 on Sunday mornings, September through March.

Instrumental Ensemble:  If you play a band or orchestra instrument, we want you!  The Instrumental Ensemble, directed by Karen Woodworth, welcomes all instrumentalists to share a variety of music with the congregation.  The ability to read music is necessary.  The loan of an instrument may be possible if you no longer own one.  Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings in the sanctuary from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Warm up begins in the music office (room 132) at 6:45 p.m.

Praise Ringers:  If you have previous handbell or other musical experience, you are invited to join Praise Ringers, directed by Norma Collison.  You’ll enjoy a wide-ranging repertoire of music that explores advanced ringing techniques, as well as the support of a caring fellowship.  Rehearsals are held in the music rehearsal room (218) Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

PC Ringers:  PC stands for both Parent/Child and Praise Christ!  No previous musical experience is necessary to make beautiful music with the PC Ringers.  Director Linda Holzwarth welcomes children from 2nd through 5th grade, their parents/grandparents/significant adults, and other beginners who would like to learn how to ring bells and chimes.  Rehearsals are held in the music rehearsal room (218) Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Soloists and Small Groups:  If you would like to offer a vocal or instrumental solo or small group performance, please contact Karen Woodworth, Director of Music, at 327-3114, ext. 507 or by email at karenwoodworth@portageucc.org.
