Who We Are
Welcome to Portage United Church of Christ. The love of God through
Jesus Christ defines who we are and makes PUCC a terrific place to be!
The Spirit here is one of joy; joy in worship, joy in service, joy in
love and honor of our brothers and sisters both within this church family
and within our community.
We welcome all people into full life in the body of Christ and rejoice in
the wonderful gifts and talents each unique individual possesses. They
say that a picture can speak a thousand words, and it is clear to us as we
look through this website that each photo speaks to the many ways that God
has blessed Portage United Church in ministry, together with one another.
The church is not a building - it is people, led by the powerful promptings
of the Holy Spirit.
This website is just one rung to the ladder of history that PUCC continues
to climb through its journey of faith. Together we have been called
for such a time as this to be disciples of light, of joy and of love in this
generation - what a calling!!!
Gratefully your servants in Christ

History of Portage United Church of Christ
Founded in 1963 Portage United Church of Christ
continues to fulfill its mission to invite, inspire, and equip
people for a maturing relationship with God through Jesus Christ to
make a positive difference in the world.
PUCC is the spiritual home of families, singles and empty
nesters who embrace traditional values and come from a variety of
faith backgrounds. We
cherish our diversity, welcoming and accepting all people.
Church membership is over 600 with an average attendance last
year of 300 at worship services and 50 children in Sunday School. We
completed a building addition in the recent past to accommodate our growth in the
numerous programs offered through the ministry of this church.
We have an outstanding Music Ministry, featuring
adult and children choirs, bell ringers, an instrumental ensemble
and a contemporary ensemble incorporating both traditional and
contemporary Christian music.
Our Children and Youth Ministries are vibrant enterprises,
encompassing Sunday School, Confirmation, Middle and High School
Fellowship and a life transforming Youth Work Camp.
Our congregation is served and enriched through Christ
CareGroups, Deacon’s Prayer Chain, Women’s Ministry, Adult Bible
Study and an opportunity to participate in a yearly retreat. Members
of all ages are highly involved in the Outreach Ministry of PUCC on
a local and global level.
Our church is committed to OCWM and, cooperating with other
area churches, supports Foods Resource Bank that yields
approximately $160,000 toward the relief of world hunger each year.
Locally, we sponsor The Wide Open Table, providing meals for
families in need, and support the mission of organizations such as
Habitat for Humanity, Portage Community Outreach Center, Ministry
with Community and Loaves and Fishes.
